Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie

Lynelle Maginley-Liddie was appointed as Commissioner of the New York City

Department of Correction on December 8, 2023.

Commissioner Maginley-Liddie most recently served as DOC’s First Deputy Commissioner, appointed to that role in January 2021, and serving in that capacity under three commissioners. In that role, she served as a primary advisor to the commissioner, chief diversity officer and managed several divisions, including the Health Management Division, Health Affairs, and the Correction Assistance Response for Employees (CARE) unit. During her time as First Deputy Commissioner, Mrs. Maginley-Liddie was essential to the agency’s pandemic response, ensuring members of service who were essential employees had access to COVID-19 testing and eventually the vaccines on Riker’s Island. Before that role, she was promoted to Acting

Senior Deputy Commissioner and Chief Diversity Officer in August 2020. Prior to that

role, she served as Deputy General Counsel, advising senior leaders and working

closely with external partners on matters related to departmental operations, policy

improvements, new initiatives, and legal issues. Commissioner Maginley-Liddie began

her career in public service at DOC in 2015 as an agency attorney.

Under Commissioner Maginley-Liddie’s leadership, the department is focused on

supporting the well-being of all staff, providing supportive resources for people in

custody, and implementing significant modernization initiatives focused on efficiency,

transparency, and accountability.

Before joining the Department of Correction, Ms. Maginley-Liddie was an Associate at

the law firm of Leader Berkon Colao & Silverstein LLP. She received her Juris Doctor

from Fordham University School of Law. She is licensed in New York and New Jersey

and is admitted to the Eastern and Southern District Courts of New York, as well as the

United States District Court of New Jersey. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a

Bachelor’s degree in Government from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
